Substitutes
The A.N.G.E.L.S. program assists with the staffing crisis in the early education and care field by recruiting new child care workers who are trained to work as substitutes in Pinellas County child care centers.

Training

  • The A.N.G.E.L.S. program provides 50 hours of free training to participants who would like to work as substitutes in child care centers

  • The training is primarily provided at our Belcher road office in Largo but may be offered occasionally at other sites

  • Classes are offered days and evenings

  • The training consists of the State mandated 40 clock hour training
(licensing rules and regulation, health, safety and nutrition, child abuse and neglect, child growth and development, behavioral observation and screening; and developmentally appropriate practices)

  • 10 more hours are offered to prepare participants with hands on ready to go activities to use with the children

Some Benefits:

  • All fees related to fingerprinting and background screening paid for

  • Upon graduation participants receive a personal portfolio

  • Resource materials such as planning guides, children's books, tapes and school readiness materials are provided to each participant

  • Participants receive a copy of The Survival Guide for the Preschool Teacher by Jean Feldman, a music tape or CD by Jack Hartmann and an A.N.G.E.L.S. Bag of Tricks booklet

The program provides a
list of graduates to preschool centers who contract with the program and agree to pay the substitutes at least $8.00 an hour and supply information about their use of the program to the Program Specialist. Centers and A.N.G.E.L.S. understand that all payment issues are strictly between the substitute and the employing center.
