Corporate Services Today's labor pool is increasingly drawn from single parent and dual career families. As a result, work/family issues have emerged as a major concern for today's employer. By addressing their employees' child care needs, employers assure themselves of a more productive, more satisfied workforce. According to the U.S. Department of Labor child care resource and referral services can reduce employee absence due to child care by forty percent. On average, female single parents miss 12.5 days per year because of child care issues. In dual career families, fathers are absent an average of 9 days per year and mothers 11.5 days. Research indicates that the cost of these absences is about $100 per day per employee. Studies repeatedly show that investing in employer-supported child care can enhance the bottom line.
